Can an important idea survive outside the paragraph surrounding it?
Consider this sentence: "As we've covered above, doing this consistently can greatly improve the results you get."
What is "this"? What results? Separated from the article, the sentence means almost nothing.
Compare it with: "Clear topic clusters help search engines and AI systems understand the relationships between the subjects your business covers."
The second sentence carries its context with it—useful for humans and easier for systems to interpret.
This principle sometimes gets called "creating self-contained answer units." But Google specifically cautions against unnecessary "chunking" designed only to manipulate generative search.

7. Measurement: Traffic Is No Longer the Whole Scoreboard
SEO measurement has mature metrics: rankings, impressions, clicks, organic traffic, click-through rate, conversions.
GEO measurement is newer.

If a human lands on your website and can't understand your business, that's bad marketing.

How to Optimize for SEO and GEO at the Same Time
You don't need two versions of every page.
You need content that performs the fundamentals well.
Make your positioning explicit
Clearly identify who you help, what problem you solve, what you provide, and where your expertise fits.
Build meaningful topic authority
Cover the important problems, questions, comparisons, and decisions surrounding your expertise instead of chasing disconnected keywords.
Answer important questions directly
Use definitions, comparisons, examples, FAQs, and direct answers when they genuinely help the reader.
Show your work
Support important claims with primary sources, expert experience, original examples, data, and clear authorship.
Make the content easy to understand
Use clear headings, logical sections, specific language, useful tables, and concise summaries.
Connect related information

Measure selection, not just traffic
